PRIVATE Hospitals Association of the Philippines Inc. (Phapi) President Jose Rene de Grano said on Wednesday that Covid-19 admissions in private hospitals remain manageable despite the increase in the number of cases of the disease in the country.
De Grano said admissions in the National Capital Region private hospitals have reached 20 to 50 percent.
"It really depends on the number of allocated beds; if you have 20 beds and 10 are admitted, that is 50 percent utilization, but if you have many beds and few admissions, utilization is considered low," de Grano said.
Increases in admissions were also recorded in Phapi hospitals in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Western Visayas and Davao.
De Grano said most of the admitted Covid cases were mild.
He cautioned those with comorbidities and the immunocompromised to take extra precaution as they can be vulnerable to moderate or severe Covid infection.
De Grano said that hospital visits remain relatively safe as long as visitors wear face masks and follow health protocols.
"Especially if you are going to high risk areas and in crowded areas with no ventilation, and you do not know who is attending. It is for your own and your family's protection," he said.
